Papua New Guinea Essential Odyssey


Day 1 Welcome to Port Moresby:

Upon your arrival in Port Moresby today you will be met and greeted by one of our colleagues at the airport. From here, transfer to your hotel for the afternoon/evening for rest. Overnight at Crown Hotel. 

Day 2: Day Tour Port Moresb:

Your guide will pick you up this morning to start your tour after the morning traffic rush hour, a stop at the Koki Fish market, then a drive to a short lookout over Fairfax Harbor towards Hanuabada Village where the Motu Koitabu people have lived for generations in villages built over sea on stilt houses. Drive through the Holiday Inn Muriel of paintings on display by artists. Also enjoy a stop at the National Museum and Art Gallery. Take a tour of the nature park where a mini jungle is home to a collection of PNGs National bird species range from the beautiful Birds of Paradise, Cockatoos, tree kangaroos that sleep during the day, crocodiles, hornbills, cassowary and the flying foxes. Breakfast and Dinner is not included, a packed lunch will be prepared for you to take with you on the day tour with a bottle of water. Your tour of Port Moresby is an air conditioned four wheel drive for comfort and ease. Return to your hotel this evening for the night in POM. Overnight at Crown Hotel 

Day 3: Port Moresby - Goroka

Morning transfer to Asaro, Arrive in the morning and check in Asaro Eco Lodge. Explore around the small village and visit an old traditional house for seeing the widow ceremony. After this head back to the Asaro Eco Lodge for your free evening. Dinner and overnight at Asaro Mudmen Eco Lodge Lunch / Dinner Asaro Village Eco-Lodge 

Day 4: GOROKA – GURUPOKA VILLAGE:

Morning walk to Mount Gurupoka (not a difficult walk about 25 minutes) and enjoy the ceremony and ghost walk of the Asaro Mudmen. In company of the Asaro Mudmen you will visit the old sacrifice cave and the cross on top of the holy mountain of Gurupoka.

Back to basecamp for lunch and in the afternoon you will see the traditional making of the Asaro Masks. What’s a complete story of the Asaro Mudmen without their MokoMoko Tribal dance of Victory? You get to have these dancers perform for you, a very spectacular show that Mudmen used to dance after victory of their tribal fights. Meals and overnight at Asaro GURUPOKA VILLAGE Eco Lodge 

Day 5: GOROKA – MINDIMA (By Land) 

After breakfast we drive to Mindima about three hours further up the highway. After lunch around 2 or 3 PM walk to the cave and a full afternoon Skeleton Tribe performance in the mystical cave where the legend of the Skeleton Tribe started. Back to the Skeleton Eco Resort and see the Insect Hunters and their Tradition in the late afternoon. Evening dinner and overnight at the Skeleton Eco Resort. 

Day 6: MINDIMA-HAGEN (By land):

After breakfast we can see the Narku dust Walkers aka The Ash Kondai Pia near the Eco Lodge. After this we board our vehicle for the drive up to Mt Hagen. Breakfast at Mindima. Accommodation at Kumul Lodge. 

Day 7: Walya Village Birding Sites Kumul Lodge(about 11 kms from Kumul) 

Spend today at Wayla village, where you will enjoy sightings of special birds unique to the highlands of PNG, Visit the Torrent Water Fall and Lime Stone Cave, as well as the Cultural Centre . Spend a little time with Traditional Storytelling and watch the Traditional Healing Performance and Traditional Dancing (SingSing) Performance with Face Painting. Return to the lodge overnight. Packed lunch + Accommodation only – NIL Breakfast & Dinner

Day 8: DEPART MT HAGEN FOR PORT MORSBY: 

This morning you checkout of the lodge for your flight back to Port Moresby. Upon arrival your hotel shuttles pick you up to check into Crown Hotel. Rest of the day at your own leisure

DAY 9: PORT MORESBY BY ROAD TO SEPOE VILLAGE 

Pickup from your hotel, you will travel by road to Sepoe village located west of Port Moresby. You arrive at Sepoe village bungalows and check in, you relax after a long drive and enjoy the scenery and surrounding, go for a swim in the creek or the open sea. You overnight after dinner. Accommodation + Packed Lunch + Dinner 

DAY 10: SEPOE VILLAGE 

Today you will spend in Sepoe Village, experience life of a typical coastal village whose staple diet is sago, you will be taken on a tour to see how the sago is harvested and prepared for any meal, you enjoy a traditional singsing performance, observe panadanus mat weaving, fan, and basket weaving, other activities also include traditional fire making, coconut tree climbing,traditional ways of grating fresh coconut, and go fishing if you wish to. Today will be packed with activities that show you the everyday life of the Kerema people. Your final program for the days ends with entertainment from a local village string band. Accommodation and all meals 

DAY 11: SEPOE VILLAGE BY ROAD TO PORT MORESBY

Today you bid farewell to your hosts and travel by road back to Port Moresby, You check into your hotel. Today is your last day of tour.

DAY 12: SIRINUMU LAKE

Today, you vehicle will pick you up from your hotel, and a 50 minutes ride out of town to the Sogeri plateau, continuing towards Sogeri National high School, the oldest national high school established in 1944, we drive off main road and take a side gravel road that will take us to Sirinumu Lake. Upon arrival at the selected picnic site, enjoy traditional welcome before a short walk to see the writings on the mountain side, get a feel of the environment before returning to the Picnic site where we will observe the women prepare local foods stuffed in bamboo trunks and banana leaves, these food is burnt over the fire and is part of our lunch. While the food is cooking, we take you on a ride across the lake, stopping by water falls where you enjoy taking picture or having a wash there. We return to the picnic site where you can enjoy paddling in dug out canoe across the lake and waterways. Lunch is a BBQ and local food stuffed in bamboo. We return to our ride and follow the same road back to the main Sogeri road before heading. back to Port Moresby. 

You return to your hotel around 3:30 – 4:00pmish. Overnight Crown Hotel or Similar. 


DAY 13: DEPART PNG You checkout of the hotel for your flight out of PNG.

Transfer to the airport this morning for your international flight.
